GG Pramila: Kodagu’s daughter is now Jharkhand’s pride
Guddanda Pramila Ganapathy will represent India at the heptathlon event in the Beijing Olympics. Hailing from Bittangala in Kodagu, Pramila is presently working with Indian Railways.
In an interview recently, Pramila said she was forced to move to Jharkhand as the Government of Karnataka failed to recognize her achievements. ”I regret that though I was in the field since last 15 years and have brought laurels by winning many national and international tournaments, the Government of Karnataka failed to recognise and encourage me. I am forced to move to Jharkhand,” said Pramila, who participated in the Sydney Olympics, and finished 24th.
Sad story. Born in Karnataka, settled in Jharkhand – not out of choice but out of compulsion. You are right, Pramila. In this cricket frenzy nation, other disciplines have no takers. And, finally, unlike cricket, athletics is no money spinner.
